Define Grantee in Real Estate

Grantee:

A grantee is someone who receives a right, interest, or title to real property from another person, known as the grantor. So, if someone is selling or giving away a piece of property, the person receiving the property would be the grantee.

Example:

For example, let's say that Mary is selling her house to Tom. In this case, Tom is the grantee because he is receiving the right to own and live in the house from Mary, who is the grantor.

So to sum it up, the grantor is the person who gives or sells the property, and the grantee is the person who receives it. The grantor transfers the ownership of the property to the grantee.

Oh grantor, grantor, don't you know?
The one who gives, the one who shows
The property right, for it to go
To the grantee, who'll watch it grow

When Mary sells her house, you see
She's the grantor, as happy as can be
Tom's the grantee, oh yes siree
He'll get the house, it's plain to see!
